The Chevrolet Corvette first appeared in 1953 as a unique American entry into the sports car market dominated by European makes. Although not a muscle car by definition, the Corvette used muscle car powertrains and has represented American performance for almost fifty years. After a year's absence, the Stingray name reappeared on the front fenders. Front and rear disc brakes, headlight washers, center console, wheel trim rings, carpeting, and all-vinyl upholstery were now standard. This was the first time the coupe outsold the convertible, and would continue to do so in all subsequent years. The appearance changes were again minimal for 1972. The 1972 Corvette was the last to feature front and rear chrome bumpers, a bright "egg crate" grill, side fender grills and the removable rear window. Fitted to this car; a NUMBERS MATCHING 350 CI, 255 HP V-8 engine. The transmission is the factory optional Close Ratio 4-Speed Manual Transmission.
